1./ Who am I?

Hi im Gabriel, 25 years old, i live in Santiago of Chile but not always. For a few years, i was in Italy doing my first Erasmus in the Universita degli Studi di Padova at the nord of Italy close to Venezia. It was an incredible experience there, i haved great time and i lerneed a lot of things. After italy i start my intership or kind of that in the University of Lisbon in Portugal in a Biogas Reactor proyect, it was challenging for me, but very interesting for my carreirer (eng of natural renewable resources). I did that intercambio thanks Student Mobility Program of the University of Chile.

About my family.. i have one brother and sister, he is a year older than me and she have eleven years old.  We are in a different stages in our lives. My brother is recently graduated of Management at the la Chile and started to work this month, we are so much happy in the family. And my sister is an incredible person, very curious and eager to learn things, i love being able to drop her off at school some mornings and talk about her day.

2. Why did you choose this career/study programme?

When I was child my father played chess with me and my brother, we were both good with numbers and we played a lot of guessing and problem solving games. Without realizing it, since I was little I paied a lot of attention to physical and astronomical sciences. I loved looking at the sky and being able to see stars and thinking about how incredible and complex the language we invented to describe them is.  Over time, the climatic situation became more and more evident to me and when the time came to decide what to study, I chose this engineering to learn how to solve socio-environmental problems. I think the management and tenconoliga are the key for this global crisis.  When I started college I didn't imagine the tools I was going to learn. Rather, I thought of renewable energy, solar panels, wind, etc... But there was more and more. Until today I focus on working with geographic information systems (GIS), making digital models for envi...

5. How can my major make the "World a Better Place"

The main axis of the career I am studying is the management of the territory, using engineering tools to be able to make better decisions when intervening in an area, generating the least possible (environmental) impact. Now, this is in general terms, as there are many edges that are taken care of in ecosystem variables. Such as conservation of flora and fauna, renewable natural resources, renewable energy production, water planning, atmospheric interaction, etc... Each of these topics is a world and requires a lot of preparation to understand the language of nature through physics. , chemistry and biology. My participation in making the world a better place is through Geomatics . Which is the science that deals with the management of geographic information through remote sensors and satellites. We are capable of modeling the coverage of a territory, understanding its biogeochemical cycles, land uses and vegetation states, to make better decisions when intervening ...

6. Career-related website that i enjoy visiting

In my last post, I will tell you about my favorite website related to my career:  It's called NASA's "Eyes on Earth." It is a page that shows us all the space missions that NASA has to date. It shows us its most important events, contributions and information such as air temperature, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sea level, soil moisture, ozone, gravity field, among others. It is a didactic page, you can see an animation in real time where the satellites are around the earth, see their specifications and what information they can provide us. I frequently visit this page, at least 3 times a week, when I am working on remote sensing, I need to know what type of satellite is useful for a specific study of coverage in the territory. There are other pages for downloading information but I like this one a lot, because I feel that it can show the public how a satellite or radar looks and works, I hope you enjoy it. 😊🛰
